The Young Parents’ Learning Center located on the Durfee High School campus was established to provide childcare for students enrolled in high school studies. Our team of early childhood specialists work to support both parent and child. The center strives to support the ongoing development of the child through exploration and collaborative learning experiences. In addition, the parents of the children are active participants in center activities and are expected to spend time in the room caring for their child while developing their parenting skills.
Each teacher develops a lesson plan balancing the needs of the individual students in the classroom with appropriate developmental expectations.
It is our belief that in order to create a complete impression of the child, multiple sources of information must be obtained. In addition to the lead teacher, parents will be asked to complete developmental questionnaires which will assist the center in enhancing the child’s learning experiences.
The Young Parents’ Learning Center believes that an ongoing parent-professional dialogue is needed to support the family unit. Parents have a variety of ways to participate in the center including having lunch with their children or attending the after school parenting support program.
